they've got civil partnerships, which have the same functions as a marriage legally, i believe. only the name is different.

in America, it's basically just a piece of paper. No legal similarities between a marriage and a civil partnership. I don't even want to get married and this pisses me off.

I'm jealous of Argentina >_> and shake my head at my own country. euch.

Yeah im happy i live in England, where it has never been illegal for women to be gay, but it was for men. Now thats over and they are now debating whether gay couples can get married properly, with the support of many religious persons!

So...in England, what is the difference between Civil Partnership and Marriage?

Well basically Marriage is the more religious side, so religious same sex couples may be able to get married in church etc in the near future, rather than a civil ceremony. At the moment Civil partnership is prohibited to include religious readings, music etc and prohibited for the ceremonies to take place in religious venues. Recently the Government (Home Office) have been discussing whether to allow marriage to same sex couples but not religious ones, but then this came in to debate. Other than that they are entitled to the same things like the ability to be a step parent to your partners children, adoption and rights to have ownership over partners possessions.
